Class of 2021 Meet Us Monday: Alexander

We are counting down to the end of the 2020-2021 school year, and it is a particularly bittersweet time for our 8th grade students as they prepare to graduate. To help celebrate and recognize our ILS Class of 2021, we have again launched our “Meet Us Monday” blog series to introduce you to the members of this year’s graduating class.

Each week, we will be sharing interviews that we have done with each of our 8th grade students, in which they share more about their favorite ILS memories and traditions, words of wisdom they’ve received over the years, and other reflections from their years here with us at ILS. We hope that you will enjoy these reflections, and join with us in congratulating and celebrating these students!

Meet Us Monday: Alexander, ILS Class of 2021

1. How long have you attended ILS?

Since 3rd grade. It’s good.

2. To what house do you belong, and how have you developed as a person by being involved in it?

I’m in House Ambrose. I don’t know how much I’ve really developed because – that’s hard to say. I love how competitive our house is. We won a lot of 8th grade competitions so far this year.

3. What was your favorite House competition?

My favorite competition was maybe ultimate frisbee. I like frisbee, and everyone in the upper school can play it. I think Irenaeus won, but it was still fun.

4. What is your favorite ILS memory? (Or, which ILS tradition will you remember the most?)

Science camp is my favorite memory. It was a really fun time and we have this tradition of stopping at a gas station, and I bought most of my classmates drinks.

5. What subject have you studied that has most inspired you, and how? What subject have you studied that most challenged you to grow or change?

Math inspires me the most. It makes sense to me.

Science might be my most challenging subject. It was really hard for me in 6th grade for some reason. I just remember igneous rocks and lots of confusing geology.

6.  Where have you applied to High School?

I’m going to Bishop Ireton, and I’m probably going to take French or Spanish. I want to learn another language, so I’m really looking forward to that. I think Trevor is going there too, which will be great, and maybe Eyosias too. I’m not sure yet, to be honest.

 7. What will you miss the most about ILS?

I will probably miss pizza lunch the most. It’s just … amazing. I’m a big pizza fan.

8. How has a teacher impacted your life personally in a way you will never forget?

Miss Danielle Davis has encouraged me a lot, and reminds me not to stress about things. She’s told me that I’m a good student and helps me move forward.
