Class of 2021 Meet Us Monday: Rhona

We are counting down to the end of the 2020-2021 school year, and it is a particularly bittersweet time for our 8th grade students as they prepare to graduate. To help celebrate and recognize our ILS Class of 2021, we have again launched our “Meet Us Monday” blog series to introduce you to the members of this year’s graduating class.

Each week, we will be sharing interviews that we have done with each of our 8th grade students, in which they share more about their favorite ILS memories and traditions, words of wisdom they’ve received over the years, and other reflections from their years here with us at ILS. We hope that you will enjoy these reflections, and join with us in congratulating and celebrating these students!

Meet Us Monday: Rhona, ILS Class of 2021

1. How long have you attended ILS?

Since 7th grade, so not that long

2. To what house do you belong, and how have you developed as a person by being involved in it?

I’m in Augustine. I haven’t spent much time with them overall, because of COVID.

3. What was your favorite House competition?

I really enjoyed the Ides of March last year, and the chariot races. We never actually finished the chariot race last year, because someone got injured. I’m glad the other student didn’t get hurt too badly. The chariot races are fun because they’re just so ridiculous and everyone is so engaged in the racing. I also really enjoyed the scavenger hunt we did for Lutheran Schools Week this year.

4. What is your favorite ILS memory? (Or, which ILS tradition will you remember the most?)

Last year, it was rainy and Mary Shelton and I were trying to get each other wet by slapping the tree branches at each other. Miss Danielle Davis got in the way and almost got hit in the face by one of the branches. Miss Davis laughed good-humoredly.

5. What subject have you studied that has most inspired you, and how? What subject have you studied that most challenged you to grow or change?

I enjoyed science a lot. Last year, we learned about biology. I have always had a love for animals and nature, so I found science to be very enriching. The ocean biology topic especially was really fun.

Math challenges me, there are just some concepts that I have struggled with.

6.  Where have you applied to High School?

I’m going to West Potomac high school. I don’t know yet what I’m going to get involved in. My mom wants me to join cross country, so I might do that. I did track and cross country in 6th grade, which was pretty fun.

 7. What will you miss the most about ILS?

Playing Uno with Miss D. Davis and Mary Shelton, and just goofing around with Mary Shelton in general. I will still keep in touch with her, though.

8. How has a teacher impacted your life personally in a way you will never forget?

Miss D. Davis – she always tolerates my shenanigans with Mary Shelton, and is an incredibly supportive teacher.
