Class of 2023: Charlotte

We are beginning our countdown to the end of the 2022-2023 school year! It is a particularly bittersweet time for our 8th grade students as they prepare to graduate. To help celebrate and recognize our ILS Class of 2023, we have again launched our “Meet Us Monday” blog series to introduce you to the members of this year’s graduating class.

Each week, we will share interviews with each of our 8th grade students, in which they share more about their favorite ILS memories and traditions, words of wisdom they’ve received over the years, and other reflections from their years here with us at ILS. We hope that you will enjoy these reflections, and join with us in congratulating and celebrating these students!

Meet Us Monday: Charlotte, ILS Class of 2023

1. How long have you attended ILS?

I have been at ILS ten years.

2. What house are you in and was your favorite House competition?

I am in Irenaeus - the superior House! I think one of my favorite House competitions was Capture the Flag. The team spirit is very present in capture the flag. I also really love doing the Peeps Dioramas (during Lutheran Schools Week). I love the creativity and that you get a bit of a sneak peek into your classmates brains. It is also a great way to mix the 8th graders and the 5th graders and work together. This year my team was me and two 5th graders, and we really developed a friendship, which has continued beyond LSW.

3. What is your favorite ILS memory? (Or, which ILS tradition will you remember the most?)

Probably in general I will really remember Miss C. Davis’s English classes. I have really fond memories of those classes and learned so much. I know how to footnote now! I love that Miss Davis encouraged us to enjoy great literature that I would have been too afraid to try out on my own. In addition to literature, I learned so much about grammar from Elements of Style and that has helped m writing.

4. What will you miss the most about ILS?

Definitely the teachers! Miss Davis the 1st, Miss Davis the 2nd, Ms. Kramer, Ms. Habrecht, Ms. Curcio. Some of my closest friends are going to the same high school as me (Oakcrest), so I won’t actually miss them!

5.  How has a teacher impacted your life personally in a way you will never forget?

Ms. Curcio - so her niece is a dancer and she is very close with her and has told us about all she has done with dance. That has really encouraged me in my dance- hearing about all of her niece’s accomplishments as a ballerina

In and out of school - Miss Davis the first has really encouraged me in literature and my essays and writing. She encouraged me to tackle a number of writing projects and helped me realize that I really enjoy writing in general.

 6. Do you have a favorite Hymn of the Year or Verse for Memorizing?

My favorite piece of music we sing at ILS is the Magnificat.
