Class of 2023: George

We are in our countdown to the end of the 2022-2023 school year! It is a particularly bittersweet time for our 8th grade students as they prepare to graduate. To help celebrate and recognize our ILS Class of 2023, we have again launched our “Meet Us Monday” blog series to introduce you to the members of this year’s graduating class.

Each week, we will share interviews with each of our 8th grade students, in which they share more about their favorite ILS memories and traditions, words of wisdom they’ve received over the years, and other reflections from their years here with us at ILS. We hope that you will enjoy these reflections, and join with us in congratulating and celebrating these students!

Meet Us Monday: George, ILS Class of 2023

1. How long have you attended ILS?

I have attended ILS for 9 years. I came in kindergarten.

2. What house are you in and was your favorite House competition?

I am in House Augustine and my favorite was the first tournament basketball game during Field Day last year. We had a great win over Irenaeus – 32 to 6 and it brought a smile to my face.

I also love the ultimate frisbee competition which we always play right before Thanksgiving break.

3. What is your favorite ILS memory? (Or, which ILS tradition will you remember the most?)

There are so many. I love playing sports at recess – basketball, baseball, and football are all great. Ever since we could, our classmates have been playing sports with one another – the competition, fun, practicing, rivalry and camaraderie is great.

4. What will you miss the most about ILS?

I will miss the fact that everyone knows each other no matter what grade you are in. I can go up to friends in other grades and we know the ins and outs of each other’s lives. We know what the teachers enjoy and their interests, and they know ours. They ask us about our lives.

5.  How has a teacher impacted your life personally in a way you will never forget?

Miss D. Davis really made me love math and understand why it’s an art – all these formulas that you use together. I really appreciate what I’ve learned, but it has trained me to think in new ways to see how things are interrelated.

 6. Do you have a favorite Hymn of the Year or Verse for Memorizing?

I would have to say my favorite Hymn is “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” (LSB 657). It was something I remember from when I first started at ILS.
