Class of 2023: Thor

We are beginning our countdown to the end of the 2022-2023 school year! It is a particularly bittersweet time for our 8th grade students as they prepare to graduate. To help celebrate and recognize our ILS Class of 2023, we have again launched our “Meet Us Monday” blog series to introduce you to the members of this year’s graduating class.

Each week, we will share interviews with each of our 8th grade students, in which they share more about their favorite ILS memories and traditions, words of wisdom they’ve received over the years, and other reflections from their years here with us at ILS. We hope that you will enjoy these reflections, and join with us in congratulating and celebrating these students!

Meet Us Monday: Thor, ILS Class of 2023

1. How long have you attended ILS?

I came to ILS in 5th grade.

2. What house are you in and was your favorite House competition?

I am in House Augustine, but all of the Houses are good. My favorite competition is Field Day because we have the different events and we don’t have regular school.

3. What is your favorite ILS memory? (Or, which ILS tradition will you remember the most?)

Lutheran Schools Week is fun because of all the fun activities like Peeps Dioramas and the Engineering Competition. Every year I made a battle scene for the Peeps Competition –
Stalingrad, Roman Fort invaded by Vikings. In 7th grade we created a WWI scene and this year we constructed the Battle of Troy. The Stalingrad scene was really cool.

4. What will you miss the most about ILS?

I am going to miss all the people here
– the teachers and my friends.

5.  How has a teacher impacted your life personally in a way you will never forget?

Mr. B (Barnett) was a great teacher and so nice. He is funny and we would get off track and have interesting conversations. One time we started talking about the founding of America but ended up learning about Einstein’s Laws Motion. We would always learn things we might not have learned otherwise. When we did virtual learning, Mr. B. would start the call early so we could just visit together.

 6. Do you have a favorite Hymn of the Year or Verse for Memorizing?

My favorite piece of music we sing at ILS is the Magnificat.
